Cake Curator – Ingredients & Allergens

The Cake Curator boxes may include a small selection of commercially manufactured edible decorating products from Sprinkly and Rainbow Dust.

All edible products are supplied sealed in their original manufacturer's packaging. I do not open, divide or repackage edible products, so the manufacturer's original ingredients, allergen information and labelling stays with the product you receive.

Because each box is individually curated, the exact colours and products included may vary. The information below covers the edible product ranges I currently curate from.

Allergens are shown in bold. Some products are vegan and others are not. If you would like me to exclude any of the following products, or discuss the allergens information, please get in touch. Manufacturers can change formulations, so please also check the original product label supplied with your box before use.

Sprinkly products – general allergen information

Sprinkly is not a free-from supplier. Sprinkly states that, because allergens are handled within its own and its suppliers’ facilities, all Sprinkly products should be considered as potentially containing:

GLUTEN (WHEAT), MILK, SOYA, EGGS, PEANUTS, NUTS, FISH, LUPIN, MUSTARD and SULPHITES.

The original manufacturer’s labelled packet is supplied with the product. Ingredients and formulations can change, so please always check the packaging received before use.

Rainbow Dust products – general allergen information

Rainbow Dust publishes ingredient and allergen information by product and, where relevant, by individual shade. It does not currently publish a single precautionary allergen statement that applies to all Rainbow Dust products.

Some individual Rainbow Dust products and Shimmer Dust shades carry specific precautionary allergen warnings. Where these apply to products used by The Cake Curator, they are shown in the relevant product section below.

  • Sprinkly Sugar Confetti is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

    Depending on the colour or colour mix, products within the range may contain:

    Ingredients across the range: sugar, sunflower oil, potato starch, rice flour, natural vanilla flavouring and permitted colours/colouring foods. Colourings used across different shades include concentrates of radish, blackcurrant, apple, safflower, lemon and spirulina, together with permitted colours including E100 and E133.

    Not every colour contains every colouring listed above. The exact combination depends on the shade or mix.

  • The Cake Curator uses Sprinkly's Natural Hundreds & Thousands range, which is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

    All products in this range contain:

    Ingredients: sugar, WHEAT starch, glucose syrup.

    Depending on the colour, they may also contain carnauba wax and colouring foods derived from ingredients including radish, apple, spirulina, safflower, blackcurrant and other plant concentrates.

    For example, individual colours and mixed colours use different combinations of these plant-based colourings.

  • The Cake Curator may use Sprinkly Vegan Silver Metallic Pearls in 2mm, 4mm or 6mm sizes.

    They are suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

    Ingredients: sugar, WHEAT flour, starch (WHEAT/maize), colour E174, glucose syrup, stabiliser (gum arabic) and agar.

    Sprinkly's individual silver pearl product information also carries a precautionary warning for traces of NUTS.

  • Sprinkly Sugar Crystals are made from sugar with permitted food colourings, depending on the shade.

  • The Cake Curator may use selected Sprinkly star-shaped sugar decorations.

    Matt White Stars

    Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

    Ingredients: sugar, sunflower oil, potato starch and rice flour.

    Matt Red Stars

    Not suitable for vegans or vegetarians because they contain E120 (carmine).

    Ingredients: sugar, potato starch, sunflower oil, rice flour; colours E100 and E120.

    Glimmer Gold Stars – Mini and Standard

    Not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.

    Ingredients: sugar, sunflower oil, potato starch, rice flour; colours E101, E171 and E172; glazing agent: shellac.

    Specific precautionary allergen warning:

    May contain traces of NUTS and GLUTEN (WHEAT).

  • Silver Christmas Trees

    Not suitable for vegans or vegetarians because they contain shellac.

    Ingredients: sugar, potato starch, sunflower oil, rice flour; colours E153 and E171; glazing agent: shellac.

    May contain traces of NUTS.

  • Rainbow Dust ProGel is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

    No regulated allergen is currently identified in Rainbow Dust's published ingredients for the ProGel range.

    Most shades are made from humectant E422, water and modified tapioca starch, with permitted food colours varying by shade.

    Unless otherwise stated above, these colours use the standard ProGel base of E422, water and modified tapioca starch.

    Colour warning

    Some ProGel shades contain E102, E104, E110, E122, E124 or E129.

    Where applicable, Rainbow Dust gives the statutory warning:

    “May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.”

    This is a food-colour warning rather than an allergen warning.

  • Rainbow Dust Shimmer Dusts are edible lustre powders and are suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

    Ingredients vary considerably by shade, so the range is grouped below.

    E172 shades

    Colour warning

    Where applicable, Rainbow Dust marks certain colours with the statutory warning:

    “May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.”

    This applies to particular shades containing colours such as E102, E104, E122, E124 and E129.

  • Rainbow Dust Sparkle Dust is an edible decorating powder combining shimmer and sparkle. It is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
